Greta would have been my late mother's first cousin (my mother, Moira Herley, was the eldest daughter of Randal Herley, the youngest brother of Greta Towner Snr (neƩ Herley). Randal was a doctor and served on the Eastern Front in Archangel before settling in Yorkshire where he met and married my grandmother (family from Roscommon, Ireland) at the age of 49. Originally the Herleys were from a Macroom, County Cork family and I have been back to the house where Randal (and presumably, Greta Snr) was born. It is not that far from Killarney, so I wonder was Greta Jnr visiting relatives during her visit in 1918. My mother met Edgar when he came to the UK for a VC celebration in the 1950s - we have photos of him with (according to my father's handwriting) his sister. I'm not sure if this was Greta - doesn't sound like it. My mother said there were three sisters that left Ireland for Australia but only two arrived! She never mentioned Greta Jnr. My mother's two sisters were also nurses in WW1. I only remember Auntie Katie - a formidable woman, even in her late 80s. What a generation! I was so moved by one of those young students, when he talked about seeing the nurses uniforms, and how it had affected him. What a fantastic project!<br />http://northqueenslandhistory.blogspot.com.auTrisha Fieldinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00625704556130592521noreply@blogger.com
