Event Inivitation - Commemoration of the Departure of WW1's First Convey from Port Melbourne - 19th Oct

The Victorian Anzac Centenary Committee and the City of port Philip will be holding a commemorative service at 4pm on Sunday 19th October at Prince Pier, Port Melbourne.
The Lemnos Gallipoli Commemorative Committee supports this important event.
The diggers and many of the nurses who served on Lemnos departed from Princes Pier in 1914 and 1915.
Lemnos was a key and vital element in the Gallipoli campaign which touched the lives of all who fought and served there. For amongst the 1,500 aboard the HMAT Orvieto were three who would die during the Gallipoli campaign and remain on Lemnos, in its Commonwealth War Graves. They were:

• Second Lieutenant Alfred Charles Harrop Jackson (6th Battalion).  
• Private Francis Thomas Carter (5th Battalion).
• Private Roy Clifford Woolcock (5th Battalion).

Event details
You can either walk in to the event with the performers and community by assembling at 5.45pm at the Women's Welcome Home Rotunda, corner Beach and Stokes Street. Alternatively, assemble near Prince Pier.
4.00pm-6.00pm - Discovery activiies at the Pier -  research your Anzac centenary connections and First Convoy embarkation rolls, poppy-making workshops and entertainment.
5.45pm March from the Rotunda to the Pier and formal recognition of the First Convoy
6.45pm sunset. Sound and light experince, special sunset ceremony.
